Topic: Support for utf-8

Your product lacks support for international characters. What good are captions if you can't write them in your native tongue?

( In the forum you make it sound as though extra characters need to be added... This shouldn't be necessary!)

Thanks in advance

Re: Support for utf-8

I'd like to see this too. My site needs to allow greek comments in the flash drawing guestbook so utf would be great please.

Re: Support for utf-8

Well, the more font I embed in a flash movie, the bigger the swf gets.  For that reason, I stick with English.  With xml Flash Gallery and media gallery, you can embed additional fonts.  For other products, you can contact me to embed your language set.

Re: Support for utf-8

I tried to embed our special norwegian characters in the fla file. That works great for txt files and so on, but naming the folders is still a problem. In xml you can specify a link text and a link code. Will the problem be solved if I use folder.xml? Or will it be possible to modify the auto_folders.php for UTF-8 support?

Re: Support for utf-8

If you are using folders.xml you can save the file in Unicode format. I fave not found a way to make php successfully read utf named folders.

Re: Support for utf-8

Hi there I would also need support for Portuguese characters. How should I proceed?

Re: Support for utf-8

i would love to see this feature.. or even a button on the toolbar to do it for each one.  I get about 700 spams a day.. and to do it the current way is just crazy and time consuming.. please make it easy for us.

thanks

Re: Support for utf-8

Hello everyone, I believe I fixed this issue a while ago.

Check this thread: http://flashnifties.com/support/viewtopic.php?id=1723

Re: Support for utf-8

I have started getting into the Chinese market which is particularly difficult.  The feature would be useful but I would imagine very difficult.

Re: Support for utf-8

UTF8 is a code page that uses a string of bytes to represent a 16-bit Unicode string where ASCII text (<=U+007F) remains unchanged as a single byte, U+0080-07FF (including Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, and Arabic) is converted to a 2-byte sequence, and U+0800-FFFF (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and others) becomes a 3-byte sequence.

The advantage is that most ASCII text remains unchanged and almost all editors can read it.

Windows NT4.0 supports Unicode<->UTF8 translation via MultiByteToWideChar()/WideCharToMultiByte(), using CP_UTF8 for the CodePage parameter, but it only works when none of the flags are set for dwFlags (therefore, you need to specify 0 for dwFlags).

Also, UTF8 is not a valid encoding for command line arguments for Windows NT 4.0 or 5.0, and it is not supported on Windows 95.
